What is the difference between a hoop and a huggie earring?

A huggie is a small hoop, generally 7mm to 13mm across, that sits tight against the lobe on a hinged closure. A hoop is larger and hangs away from the ear, with sizes here reaching two inches. The construction is the same. What changes is the diameter, the weight on the lobe, and how much the earring moves as you do.

What hoop earring size should I choose?

For a first pair, 12mm to 15mm reads as an everyday hoop and stays within the line of the lobe. Under 10mm reads as a huggie and works well in a second piercing. From 1.5 inches up, the hoop sits below the lobe and becomes the piece people notice first. Every product page lists the diameter in millimetres or inches.

How do hoop and huggie earrings fasten?

Most huggies use a hinged snap closure. The hoop swings open at one side, passes through the lobe, and clicks shut. Larger hoops use either a hinged closure or a post and latch. Can I wear hoop earrings every day?
