Stud Earrings: Frequently Asked Questions

Do you carry lab-grown diamond studs?

Yes. The Essential Lab Diamonds line is made in 14K gold, in yellow, white, or rose, with lab-grown diamonds from one carat to four carats total weight. The Signature Martini studs run 4.00 ct total in E color and VS2 clarity. The same settings can be made with natural diamonds instead. Both are real diamonds, and the choice is yours.

What carat weight should I look for in diamond studs?

For a first pair worn daily, 0.50 ct to 1.00 ct total weight reads as a clean point of light and stays inside the lobe. From 2.00 ct total the stones start to read across a room. Remember that total weight covers both earrings, so a 1.00 ct pair is roughly half a carat in each ear.

What is the difference between a martini, basket, and bezel stud setting?

A martini setting holds the diamond in three angled prongs and sits low against the lobe. A basket uses four or six prongs in a squared frame and lifts the stone so light enters from the sides. A bezel wraps the girdle in a rim of gold and is the most protected of the three. Prong-set pairs are made to order, so allow three to four weeks.

Are stud earrings a good choice for a second piercing?

Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons clients buy a second pair. A stud under 0.25 ct sits flat and does not crowd a hoop in the first hole. Bezel settings suit a higher or newer piercing best, since there are no prongs to catch on hair or a pillow. Bring the placement to a consultation and we will size the pair to it.
